Whinfell Care (52 weeks) is a successful, national resource offering placements to Local Education Authorities, Social Services and Health Care Departments. We provide residential placements to boys aged 11-19 who require care, education and health support.
Whinfell Care offers tailored, medium to long term placements for up to ten young people presenting with a variety of learning difficulties and needs, including Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Complex Neurological Conditions, ADHD, CAHMS Assessments, and their associated challenging behaviour. Young people may also be subject to Educational Statements of Special Educational Needs and presenting with impaired reciprocal social interactions and impaired communication skills.
Our level of service reflects the need for close support set within a quality care and education environment. The young people may currently be presenting challenging behaviour which potentially places themselves and others at risk of physical, emotional or psychological harm.
We have created calm, homely and caring environments in all of our premises at Whinfell where the vulnerable young people can work through their difficulties and achieve their emotional, social, physical and academic potential.
Curriculum
Whinfell Care offers a curriculum where unique educational programmes are designed for all individuals on the basis of regular assessments of abilities and progress. We offer an appropriate curriculum to the boys placed here including the full National Curriculum in all subjects. Personal targets are set and progress monitored closely allowing potentials to be supported and developed.
Pupils with special educational needs should have the same opportunities as others to progress. At the same time, the National Curriculum should apply to these children in a way which teachers, parents/guardians and placing authorities feel as appropriate. Concise access statements give teachers flexibility to match the National Curriculum to each pupil's ability and our size means that we can successfully apply this flexibility.
