Founded in 1726, Godolphin is one of the oldest girls' schools in the country. Today it offers a modern and relevant education to 430 boarding and day girls. Academic results are consistently very good, with almost all girls going on to higher education. But Godolphin isn't just about academic results: it is a school for girls who want a lot more out of life; girls who want to enjoy art, music, drama, sports, adventure, community involvement and a host of interests beyond the confines of the curriculum.
The ethos of the School fosters a genuine love of learning, a passion for excellence and the confidence to think and work independently. Girls are encouraged to develop interests to enrich them for life; dozens of extra-curricular clubs and societies cater for every taste.
Since 1894 Godolphin has welcomed a significant number of day girls, traditionally know as Sarums. They are fully integrated into the School, sharing Houses with the boarders and enjoying the same facilities and opportunities.
Accommodation for the 176 boarders is in five comfortable Houses where life is relaxed, friendly yet carefully structured, allowing individuals to develop at their own pace. Sixth Formers graduate to the Sixth Form Centre which seeks to ease the transition between school and university by allowing girls greater independence, under the discreet and watchful guidance of experienced house staff.
The School is situated within a few minutes' walk from Salisbury, and thus combines the advantages of a semi-rural location in beautiful countryside with the facilities and attractions of this lovely cathedral city.
Godolphin benefits from an imaginative programme of development which, since 1996, has included a superb 300-seat performing arts centre, a new sixth form centre, a new boarding house and a state-of-the-art ICT network. New in 2000 an all girl CCF Unit. Also opened in September 2001 a new covered swimming pool and fitness centre.
Alumni - All pupils are eligible to join the Old Godolphins on leaving the school. There are regular reunions, including Commemoration held at School in September, together with a Service of Thanksgiving for the School's Founder, Elizabeth Godolphin at Westminster Abbey every November. Members receive regular mailings from the school including the Godolphin News which is published each term together with their own annual Newsletter. The records are maintained on their behalf by the School's Development Office and the Old Godolphins also have a message board facility on the School's Web site which is located at www.godolphin.org To contact the organisation please telephone 01722 430511.
