Wisbech Grammar School was founded in 1379 and has provided a sound academic education for many years. The School became fully co-educational in 1970 and this is also reflected in the appointment of the teaching staff.

More than £5m has been spent on new facilities in recent years. A new assembly hall and classrooms for the preparatory department, Magdalene House, are due for completion at Easter 2008.

The school offers 23 different subjects at A level, and an essentially academic curriculum provides pupils with the opportunity to study French, German, Spanish, separate Sciences, History, Geography, Music, Art and a wide range of Design and Technology disciplines.

Pastoral care is Form based, but there is also a strong House system, which includes competitions, across the age range in all major sports, together with a Music Festival, Quiz, Debating and other activities.

A substantial extra-curricular programme includes many Sports, Electronics, Chess, Music, Drama and Scrabble. A twinning arrangement exists with French and German schools. Trips abroad have included Russia, China, Iceland and USA, as well as the annual ski trips. Music and Drama are well supported, allowing several concerts and productions every year.

The Magdalene House Preparatory Department, which opened in September 1997, has grown from 83 to 170 pupils, with boys and girls from Reception to Year 6. Great emphasis is placed on acquiring basic skills in reading, writing and number work.

The Magdalene House pupils benefit from being part of an established Senior School, thus having access to many of the excellent facilities that already exist there. As well as their own computer suite, Magdalene House pupils have use of Science laboratories, indoor sports hall, all-weather pitch and Drama facilities. Specialist teaching is offered in Music, Design Technology, PE and Games, Information Technology and Drama. Many girls and boys are involved in peripatetic music lessons, with opportunities to perform in dramatic and musical productions throughout the school year.
