Abbey College is situated in beautiful countryside at the heart of England, officially recognised as an area of “outstanding natural beauty”. It is one hour away from Birmingham International Airport and two and a half hours from London Heathrow Airport.
The Abbey College was established as a seat of learning in 1874 and gradually developed from a girls’ college to the international college it is today. Our summer courses have been running since 1969.
On our 28 hectare campus a wide range of sports and activities are available. Almost anything is possible; from badminton to swimming – we have a heated outdoor pool, from basketball to tennis, from karaoke to photography in our own dark room. Barbecues and campfires are very popular with students, too.
As for accommodation, students can either stay in one of our eight boarding houses depending on sex and age or they may want to live with a local family and thus receive a better idea of everyday life in Britain.
With regards to teaching, we offer two different types of courses; academic and vacation courses. Academic courses include GCSE and IGCSE courses, AS and A Level courses and foundation courses.
GCSEs or IGCSEs for international students lead on to A Level and foundation courses. A Levels or completed foundation courses are the basis for higher education at university.
In our vacation courses the focus lies on English language learning and teaching and an exciting social programme. There are different programmes for students aged 8-11, 12-17 and 18+.
Our English All Year Courses for teens from 12-17 and adults take place outside the Easter and summer holidays. They are the appropriate choice for students who want to learn English in a more academic atmosphere.
Our staff are particularly happy to design tailor-made courses for groups and assist them with any special requests they may have.
On top of all this, choosing Abbey College means a number of advantages.
1. Class sizes: on average there are 7-8 students in one class which allows teachers and students to build close relationships.
2. We have a team of dedicated sports, welfare and residential staff who look after students and advise them if required.
3. Our exam results are fantastic for a private international school. 87% of the A Level results of 2003 were As and Bs; the national average is 44.5%.
