Thames Christian College is a unique school, proud of the exceptional way our staff take the time to get to know every pupil in order to develop and challenge each child to reach their highest potential.
Parents care deeply about their children and want the best for them. We too are concerned with all aspects of our pupils’ lives: their behaviour; whether they are respectful towards others; how they relate to their friends; their achievements, whether a string of top grades in the more academic subjects or high grades in Art, Drama or Music whilst still obtaining good passes in the vital subjects of English, Maths and Science.
We achieve this with small classes, with discipline based on respect and courtesy and a dedicated and highly-qualified staff team who build an excellent rapport with each pupil. A stimulating, nurturing environment where learning is tailored to accommodate pupils’ individual needs and varying learning styles is the key to our success.
We believe education should be active and enjoyable, challenging pupils to fulfil their potential. Core subjects are balanced with vibrant creative arts and life skills, underpinned by a strong Christian-based Personal Development programme.
Education gives choices. We help each child in our care to have as many choices as possible, by providing the environment where they can achieve the academic grades, the maturity, the character and integrity to prepare them for life in today’s world.
Our excellent provision for pupils with SEN has been recognized by CReSTeD, with our registration as a ‘dyslexia friendly’ school in January 2007. Teaching in a ‘dyslexic-friendly’ way has been proved to raise standards whether dyslexic or not.
Ofsted quotes, September 2007. ‘In a significant number of lessons, teaching was judged to be outstanding.’ ‘There is an interesting and varied curriculum, of good quality and good teaching, which engage pupils’ interests effectively.’ ‘Outstanding practice in professional development ensures that teachers have good subject knowledge and are fully acquainted with current educational initiatives.’
In due course, the school intends to expand to offer A levels. At present, our pupils gain entry to a wide range of excellent schools for their 6th form education.
